Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about typing in the context of work

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification with words before reading the text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will watch a video that will introduce the topic of texting /typing. The teacher will allow ss to discuss in pairs what the vid is about.

Pre-Reading/Listening (9-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- Teacher will put a list of questions on the WB and give them 3 mins to discuss their answers in pairs. - Teacher will get the feedback from the ss. - Teacher will put 3 pictures on the board and ask ss if they know what they are. (2 mins talk in pairs) - Teacher will get the feedback from the ss. - Teacher will go to the image of the thumb - doctor . - T will have ss discuss what they think the image is about in pairs. - T will tell the students that this is an actual medical condition . - T will ask the ss if they know what the word means then if not define the word 'medical condition ' - T will put the question on the board and give students a min to discuss together in pairs. - T will introduce the word average - T will tell the students that if you can type fast it's a work skill - you can get a job .

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Ss will read the text for gist to get an overview of the text and will choose a title from the 3 options provided. - Instruction: " I will give you this text to read quickly, and answer 1 question " " How many questions will you answer? " " Will you read quickly or take your time? " - Once ss finish, allow them to check their answers in pairs. - Instruction: " Now check your answers in pairs. " - T will ask the ss if they have the same answers and give them the right answer. - Instruction: '"Which one did we answer? " " Do we all agree? " "Why? "

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T will give students an activity where they will need to find the answers to questions from the text? - Instructions: "We are going to reread the text again and I want you to answer the questions on this page, ALONE. " ICQ'S : "Are we doing this alone or with our partner? ALONE" okay. - Instructions: " Now check your answers in pairs." - Ss will check their answers in pairs then T will have the students select the answers from the text projected on the WB.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T will give the students a final activity ' students will have to solve the puzzle' - Instruction: Take a look at this puzzle and find the words from the box.
