Main Aims

Procedure

Lead in • To activate students' schemata

S are divided in groups. A picture of different uses of water is displayed and S are to guess the amount of water used for each task. S discuss their answers and whole class feedback is done. S talk about the uses of water and how water pollution affects life. S also discuss causes and effects of water shortage.

Listening Practice • To practice listening for specific information in the context of water.

Pre listening task: Tr questions S : How do people in UAE get water? Tr. elicits the word desalination from the S. Tr then displays a list of questions and asks S to work in pairs and answer the same. WCFB is done. Listening Task: Tr ask S to open their text books to pg 89. S are asked to read Ex3 before listening to the recording. S are asked to predict answers. S then listen to the recording and and match the answers to the questions. Post Listening Task: PC and WCFB are done. Tr then displays a few questions on the board. What is your opinion about the recent cloud seeding experiment that happened in UAE? Could this method provide natural sweet water to the UAE? If yes, how so? List ways to minimise the water wastage in the UAE?

Listening Practice • To practice listening for specific information and to draw inference from the recording based on the context of water.

Warmer: Tr displays a picture of a flow chart. Ask S to identify the picture and discuss its uses in pairs. Pre- listening task: The aim of this stage is to pre teach vocabulary that S will come across in the listening task. This is done through a wall walk. S are put in groups and are given meanings. They are to find the words for the meanings given to them. Listening Task: Tr asks S to open their books to pg 89 and read Ex 5. Tr plays the recording and S fill in the information in the flow chart. Post listening task: Questions from Ex7 are displayed on the board and S are asked to discuss them in pairs.

Reading Activity • To practice reading for specific information and to draw inference in the context of water.

Pre reading task: A few questions are displayed on the board (Ex2 pg 90) S are asked to discuss them in pairs. Reading Practice: Task 1: Ex 3 from the text is done. Task 2: Word search is done. (Pre teach vocab) Task 3: Ex 5, 6 and 7 are done. PC and WCFB are done after each task. Post reading task: Ex 8 is done.
