Description

In this lesson, students will practice grammar 'Prepositions of time'. They will listen and read the text containing various prepositions of time. They will then have tasks related to text and what they have learned in MFP. And finally, they will have a chance to practice them in controlled, semi-controlled and freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of (prepositions of time - in, on, at) in the context of 'going out'.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in (prepositions of time - in, on, at) in the context of going out.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will start the lesson by showing students some pictures of people going out and asking them what the topic might be about. Teacher elicits the answer/prompts the answer. Teacher will then ask some random questions Q.1 What do you do in the evenings? Q.2 Do you go out? where? Q.3 What do you do at the weekend?

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will ask students to listen to a conversation between two friends and answer these four qeustions. HO1 Q1. Where did Nancy and Sebastian meet? Q2. What is Sebastian doing on Saturday? Q3. Where will they meet? Q4. When will they meet? Once they are done, the teacher will ask students to check the answers with their partners. Teacher will finally discuss the answers with the class as whole class feedback.

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will ask students to read the text in HO2 and answer some questions. Teacher hands out the guided discovery sheet to students and will closely monitor and see if some students require extra help to complete the tasks. Teacher will see if most of the students have completed the task, teacher will start feedback by asking them to check their answers in pairs. Teacher will then provide answer key to students so that they check and point out mistakes by their own for better learning. Teacher will then ask students to fill the gaps in form section. Teacher could write one example on board and elicit the answer from students. Teacher will closely monitor while they are working on their tasks. Teacher will see if most of the students have completed the task, teacher will start feedback by asking students to check their answer in pairs and then teacher will provide the answer key so that they check and point out their mistakes by their own for better learning. Teacher will finally drill some model sentence and elicits the stress.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will ask students to look at HO3 and complete the sentence with in, on or at. Teacher will see if most of the students have completed the task. Teacher will start doing feedback by first asking students to check their answers in pairs and then asking different students to come at white board and complete the sentences with correct prepositions. Teacher will finally check the answers with class as whole class feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Teacher will ask students to discuss in pairs and groups and complete the sentence with in, on, at and a time expression. HO4. Teacher will see if one student of each pair has completed the sentences, teacher will ask to change the roles and discuss the same sentences with their partners.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will ask students to stand up and talk with their partners about their evening and weekend activities using prepositions of time - in, on, at. Teacher will observe every pair. if they are using them correctly or not. Teacher will ask students to change their partners and talk about their evenings and weekend activites for more practice of TL.
