Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about men and women in the context of opinon

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of men and women in the context of opinion

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll write men from mars , women from Venus on the board and ask your class if they think men and women come from different planets and what the main differences between men and women. I'll play the video film for them to make the lesson more interesting.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'll point out that the text they are about to read reports the findings of the survey.I'll explain the new vocabulary to them . I'll ask them to read it carefully and decide if each gap should be filled with men or women. I'll allow them to compare answers in pairs but I won't confirm or deny anything at this stage.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I'll monitor, see and notice the students mistake. I'll play the recording for the students to check their answers together. Then they will have a class discussion on whether the results would be different in their country.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I'll ask the student to choose a paper and read the things that women and men do differently, and discuss together these things and whether we find them in real life or not.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

We will have a class discussion and try to correct mistakes if found.
