In this lesson students will practice writing a letter describing their plans for the future. Focus is on correct use of future tenses, expressing ideas about the plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greet the students, take attendance. Ask if they talk with their friends over the internet. How? Ellicit Letter - when there is a lot of information. Ask what do they write about? Ellicit future plans - when we want to tell our plans, explain why we will not be at home and share good things. Introduce the topic of the lesson - Letter about Future Plans

Vocabulary exercise (5-10 minutes) • To check vocabulary needed for the task

Ellicit from the class 3 things that we can do on a holiday. Elicit using a construction v + noun(e.g. swim in the sea). Bridge to the exercise - tell the students " match activities with the pictures" "Write the number of the picture near the activity" Feedback - together with the whole class Problems: students don't understand the words and search in the dictionary or ask the teacher. Write the word on the board and tell the student to finish the rest, we will translate/find out it after the task.

Reading comprehension (4-6 minutes) • To provide example of the final product(letter)

Tell students that we are going to read a letter about holiday plans. There are activities from the first exercise in this letter. "If the activity is in the text, put an X near it." "You have 3 minutes. Do you have time to use a dictionary? What do you do if you don't understand the word?. After the time is up, ask for the answers from several students.

Eliciting rules for the future tenses (10-16 minutes) • To revise the rules for the usage of future tenses

Ask the students to look at the text again. Is this letter about the Past or the Future? Is there only Future Simple in the text? Which other tenses are used? Get the tenses with examples from the students and write them on the board. Ellicit the rules for using these tenses. Show the next page with rules, ask students to read the rules. Inquire if some of the rules are unclear and if yes, then get other students to explain the rules or ellicit the rule with examples. Transfer to the exercise to check that the students understand the rules. Ask them to put the verbs in correct form. Give 5 minutes for the task. After the task, let students check their answers in pairs, then with the teacher.

Productive Task(s) (20-25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Tell the students to write their own letter to a friend. Ellicit what the first paragraph will be about. Ellicit if they are going to talk about the Past or the Future. Ellicit if they are going to use only Future Simple. Give the students 15 minutes for the task. After the time limit tell the students to swap the papers with a partner(a different partner) and check for mistakes. Task time - 5 minutes

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Comment on the good language and interesting parts. Ask what problems they had with the production part. Check common errors together. Tell them to spend more time on the next production at home - introduce homework.
