Description

In this lesson, S practice use of transport collocations. They engage in listening and speaking tasks to practice the use of collocations related to transport. They clarify and practice the use of articles in sentences.

Procedure

Lead in • To activate students' schemata

Pair work; Pictures of different modes of transport are displayed on the IWB. S are to describe each picture and compare them. They are to talk about their favourite mode of transport and why they prefer it to the others. They are to discuss how they usually travel from home to school and from home to the British Council.

Speaking Practice • For S to clarify the use of collocations related to transport.

S are divided in groups. They are to match words to the word webs related to transport. Once S complete the task they check their answers with other groups and then whole class feedback is done.

Speaking Practice • To practice using the functional language in speaking fluently and accurately

S work in pairs. Each pair is given a different worksheet. Each HO has pictures of the different modes of transport with a few adjectives. S, first complete the HO individually and then ask their partners opinion on the same. Tr monitors when S are engaged in the task. Immediate or delayed error correction is done as and when required.

Listening Practice • To practice listening for specific information in the context of transport

Questions are displayed on the IWB. S are asked to listen to a museum guide and answer those questions. (S book Pg 88 Task A B C D)

Controlled written practice • To practice writing accurately using transport collocations.

In this task, S are to complete a conversation with the correct form of the verbs given in a box. They work in pairs. (Work book Pg 51)

Speaking Practice • To practice speaking accurately and fluently using transport collocations.

S are divided in groups. Each group is asked to design a vehicle which is pollution free and environment friendly. They are to give a special name to the vehicle, mention if it is used on land, water or air and give a short presentation on its features to the class. S are given a rubric and are asked to evaluate the other team. Delayed error correction is done.

Language Input - • To clarify the use of a, an ,the or zero article.

Tr uses TTT to convey the meaning of the TL. S are instructed to fill in gaps with a, an, the or zero article from their text books. (pg 89 3A) S check their answers with each other. WCFB is done. S then do the following task. They are instructed to match the rules to the text on articles. PC and WCFB are done. Tr monitors and delayed error correction is done. Tr then displays a few sentences on the board and explain MPF to S. Mira carries an umbrella to work when it's sunny. I use the metro to go to school. He has a red car. S engage in a listening task to clarify pronunciation related to the TL.(Ex. 9.3)

Controlled written practice • To practice writing sentences correctly using the TL.

Ex 4A from the text book is done. This task is done individually. Pc and WCFB are done. Delayed error correction is done. S are given another task, wherein they are to rewrite the sentences using articles. PC and WCFB are done.

Speaking Practice • To practice speaking fluently and accurately using articles in the context of transport.

S play a game in pairs. Each pair is given a HO and a dice. They are to roll the dice and ask questions to each other. Tr monitors and delayed error correction is done.
