Description

In this lesson students will practice reading, speaking as well as reviewing some lexis and also their writing skill .. It will start with a warmer as the students will watch a video about different types of races and discuss it then a pre reading activity and while reading 1 and 2, they will touch on some vocabs and then they will practice writing with a controlled and a free practice

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Rowing race in the context of sports

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sports
  • To provide process writing practice of a report in the context of sports

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask ss to focus on a video including 4 types of racing sports and they will have to match the number of that race to it's name in the handout and then check together

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will give ss a few questions in a handout and they have to answer it in pairs giving them 5 minutes then taking feedback of what have they discussed

Pre-teaching vocab (3-5 minutes) • To make it easier for ss to understand the text

T will hand out a matching vocab exercise, giving Ss 2 minutes then checking in pairs then T explains whatever not clear through eliciting then T will drill the words

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

SS will read the text for gist and try to answer the questions provided on it and check in pairs

While-Reading/Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will read the text again but this time more thoroughly and try to match and complete the sentences provided in the exercise from the text T will demonstrate with them how they do it and using ICQs T has to assure them to work alone first and then check together

Post-Reading practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

SS will have to reuse the words they have formed and rewrite similar sentences to what have come in the text without looking at it , teacher monitors and help Ss then check their writings

Post-Reading practice #2 (2-5 minutes) • To practice their writing in a less controlled way

Ss write about a type of sport that they wished to play when they were younger or right now, they will write why they choose it and if they prefer to play it alone or in a team
