Description

In this lesson, students read a text about e-shoppings and learn some new words about this subject. After reading for gist and for details, they will talk about their experiences with this subject.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about e-shopping in the context of website

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of e-shopping

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will set the context using the picture from page 90. The students look at the picture for a very short time and tell the class what they think it is. The teacher asks a few specific questions so that it becomes clear that this is an online shopping mall.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher gives the Students the hand-out of vocabulary matching and will ask the students to try and guess the correct answers in groups. Later he asks them to look at the answer key and check their answers. He clarifies the words using CCQs.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher gives exercise 1 to the students and asks them to find a suitable answer to them. The students should work alone at first and then discuss them with each other. In the feedback stage, they should tell the class what they think the answers are and why.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with a more challenging exercise

The teacher gives the students the exercise 2 and asks them to read the texts and find the corresponding stores on the website. The students read them on their own and later tells their groups what they think the answers are. During the feedback, they share their ideas with the class.

While-Reading/Listening #3 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher hands out exercise 3, which is the questions about the specific information. The students read the questions and might also use the vocabulary sheet to understand the questions. They find the answers and will discuss them in their groups. The teacher asks them to tell the class what they think the answers were during the feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher asks the students to share their experience about shopping online in pairs with each other and also to talk about the problems they had or what problems they could have. The partners take notes and will share their findings with the whole class.
