Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice using a lecture about generations and what gives each one its own identity

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation answering questions about generations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Ss will be given pieces of paper that have different words on each scrambled and they will have to put them in the correct order to create the quote " Every child, every generation is a product of their times" which will be the lead in into the lecture they will listen to. after they unscramble it alone they will discuss it in partners then have a WC discussion because The quote will be then shown on the board to discuss it and know if they have a prior knowledge about the words 'generation' and 'product'

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The Ss again will then see a question on the board: "What do you think gives each generation its identity?" they will be asked to read it and think about it and be then given slips of paper that have different things that do give the identity to each generation, they would have to rank them in the order of their importance by themselves then discuss their answers with a partner and then have WC discussion

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

The Ss will be given questions on sheets of paper that are folded with the right answers hidden they would have to answer while listening the first time to the lecture, then they will discuss their answers with their partner. after they are done they can open their papers and check their answers. Then have WC discussion and see if they have any problems.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

The Ss will be handed a sheet of paper with true or false sentences answered while listening for the lecture the second time. the paper again will be folded with the answer key hidden. the Ss will do it individually first then discuss with their partner, when they are done they can unfold and check their answers together. later have a WC discussion to check if there are any questions.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The sub-aim of this lesson is to have a freer speaking task on the same topic and to be able to discuss the ideas they have heard in the listening. Before that though the T will pass sheets paper around (with four different colors to group them) that has a task on vocabulary about the prefixes with self- . the students then will work with their group on the task and the answer key will be folded for them to open later and check their answers. then the teacher will have WC to check if they have questions. Then the T will pass papers of questions on them that are a continuum of the theme of the lesson to speak about it with their groups, the teacher will monitor and give feedback after they are done
