reading Greta Garbo
To provide a gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Greta Garbo lonely life. We will do this through a pre-reading activity (gist read),a while reading and a post reading activity.
To provide product writing practice of a summary about someone's life in the context of a retired person
To provide clarification and usage of some vocabulary .
To provide speaking fluency in a free discussion in real life.
Procedure (31-45 minutes)
1-T:Greets the Ss. 2-T:shows Greta Garbo's photo and asks, " Does anyone know about the lady in this photo? 3-T:gets FBK
1-T:tells them that they are going to watch a video about her and asks ,"what I want you guys to focus on is who is this lady , what does she do, and what's her famous line?" 2-T :explains the word" famous line" by giving Ss an Egyptian example. 3- T:asks ICQs."how many things will you get from the video?, what are they?are you gonna write anything?" 4-Ss watch the video and T gets FBK. 5-T:asks the Ss " what do you think our title will be about? 6-T gets FBK
1. T tries to elicit blocking words from students. 2. T gives students a hand out to clarify words. 3. T tells SS "you are going to read the sentences and find the word or phrase which gives the meaning of the word in bold you have two minutes starting from now" 4. T asks ICQs ,"are you gonna work alone or in group first?," Are you gonna match the words or just write the number?, Are the definitions in A column or in B column and where's the words?" 5- T demonstrates. 6. T gets FBK 7. the teacher asks SS to put the paper upside down and drill some of the words before writing them on the board.
T:tells Ss to look at their hand out and read the text to answer the question of how many times Greta Garbo changed her name." T:gives Ss 1 minute to read . T:asks ICQs ,"Are you gonna read alone or with your partner?, which question are you gonna answer?,Are you gonna read every word or just quick reading?"
1-T draws Ss' attention to the questions following the passage and asks them to read the passage again and rearrange the sentences . 2-T asks ICQs if necessary, " Are you gonna read for long time or short time?, are you gonna read quickly or slowly?,Are you gonna write answers or just numbers?" 3- T demonstrates. 4-T asks Ss to swap their papers and correct them. 5- T tells Ss to listen to the answer and plays the track.
1- T: asks Ss to speak together about their favorite Hollywood star and his or her life. 2-T gets FBK.
T:asks Ss,"when did Greta Garbo retire?" T draws Ss' attention that they are going to write a paragraph about a retired person's life and the previous passage is an example. T:gives Ss a written example about a person of mine . T: asks Ss to read the example and discuss with their partners. T: draws the Ss attention to the helping words in the table which can be used in their paragraph. T: asks Ss to think for a minute then discuss the words with their partner about their chosen person.
1-T: asks Ss to collect their ideas and write it in a summary paragraph about a retired person's life. 2-T asks ICQs,'are you gonna use all the phrases in the table?,are you gonna write a long or short paragraph? are you gonna write about any person or a retired person?" 3-T ask Ss to swap their papers and correct to each other.
