Description

In this lesson Ss will focus on the gist reading and detailed reading , based on the text about shopping basket in Britain.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about buying habbitst in Britain in the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of nation's Turkish shopping basket

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. The game "empty chair" T gives instruction: Stand up those who have bought the carton of milk this week and now change your place. T gives couple of instructions connected with shopping . 2. SS give couple of instructions themselves.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. T. pre-teaching vocab. 2. Ss. do gaps filling activity, compare in pairs 3. WC FB. If required CCQs

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- T gives questions to the Ss and focuses their attention on them, then T gives one part of the text - Ss read for gist 1min and then compare answers in pairs - WC FB,

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1. T gives SS the h/o with table and questions. 2. Ss focus their attention on the questions. 3. First Ss read on their own and complete the task and then compare in groups. 4. WC FB by nominating

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. T provides the "pyramid discussion" : first students work individually, then discuss questions in pairs, then in groups, then in two groups. 2. WC FB
