Description

In this lesson Ss will learn new vocabulary (adjectives) in the context of 'A man's best friend" or animal preferences and why introduced to them through a listening activity and practiced by a productive skill activity ( speaking) where they will state their preferences in animals and why.

Main Aims

  • Vocabulary: to provide new adjectives, practice old adjectives, and to practice form and pronunciation introduced through the context of 'animals'.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking: to produce sentences to describe animals and to express prefrences using the adjectives pre-taught to them

Procedure

lead-in (1-2 minutes) • This is to increase the interest of Ss to the context of the listening.

T will put pictures of animals around the room for Ss to look at at the beginning of the session in order to elicit the subject of the session from Ss. Ss will walk around the room and discuss the subject of the lesson, then they will be seated and T will ask them what they think the subject is. T will open the PowerPoint which has the same pictures and the name of the session "men's friends". T will ask students about their favorite animal and why to engage them.

Prediction task. (2-3 minutes) • To activate Ss prior knowledge of the vocabulary

T will provide a matching exercise. T will explain to Ss that they will match the picture with the adjective they think best describes it. T will demonstrate. Ss will work in pairs. T will ask different Ss to match on WB for feedback.

Clarifying target language (3-4 minutes) • To clarify meaning, pronunciation and form of the adjectives.

T will clarify the meaning by eliciting using antonyms and synonyms. Ss will answer. If Ss dont answer T will give it to them. T will use cut out adjectives and put them on WB. T will drill the pronunciation. T give an example of a sentence with the adjectives. T will elicit form Ss another example. Ss will give examples and practice the usage of these adjectives.

Listening for gist (4-5 minutes) • To give Ss a general idea of the text.

T will clarify to Ss to listen and answer the question they have on HO. Ss have to choose for each speaker if that speaker likes or dislikes dogs. T will play the recording. Ss will answer. If Ss want to listen another time T will open it again, If not, T will ask Ss to check in pairs. T will then display the answers on WB. Ss will correct their answers.

listening for details (5-6 minutes) • To practice listening an the usage of the adjectives.

T will provide Ss with HO that have the listening for detail exercise. T will explain that they have to listen for answers to these questions. If Ss do not understand some of the questions, T will clarfiy. Ss will listen carefully and answer. If Ss want T will repeat the listening. Ss will work in pairs to check their answers. T will monitor and give random Ss answers to the questions. Ss with the answer will put the answer in the right place. WC feedback

Speaking task (9-10 minutes) • To give Ss the chance to use their own language to describe an animal and express their preferences.

T will pre-teach Ss how to express strong emotions like; " I really love....I really hate" T will pre-teach Ss how to ask about animal preferences. T will remind Ss of how to make a sentence that includes adjectives by modeling. T will clarify the activity. she will model Ss will be given a picture of an animal from a box, They will describe this animal to their partner and their partner has to guess. T will then switch the game from PW to GW

Feedback task (if we have time). (9-10 minutes) • To make sure understood the meanings of the

WC will play a game called XO. The classroom will be divided into two parts. part X and part O. T will have a table on WB of a table with the names of the animal. T will clarify the game by giving clear instructions and using ICQs. T will let one group go first, one student has to choose a animal and describe it correctly, if they do, they win an X on the board until the have three X
