In this lesson the learners will be learning about meeting places around the world through selected texts, they will also be introduced to the vocabulary associated with this topic then they will be practicing how to use the new words to describe what they do with their friends

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about meeting places around the world in the context of all over the world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of describing what you do with your friends


Lead in (3-5 minutes) • to generate interest and activate the students existing knowledge on the topic

tell a story with a picture of where people meet in my country get the students to tell where they meet with their friends on WB project the pictures of the places that they might read about in the text in pairs, the students can discuss briefly then share their opinions with the whole class or just do it as a WC

pre-teach (6-8 minutes) • vocabulary

Teach some vocab that the students need for the reading exercise ask the students questions that can lead them to the right definitions for example the kind of shopping where you just look at things but don't buy...... Drill the students to find the meaning by themselves

While-Reading for gist (8-10 minutes) • to get an overview of the text

teacher gives out the handouts containing the texts asks the students to read the text quickly set a time limit of 2 minutes for this activity give student cut outs of phrases to match with places, for example, "Abu Dhabi" match with "at home" the students match texts with places on the text

While reading2 (5-10 minutes) • reading for detail

the students re-read the text give cut outs to the students project on wb board the name of the places groups of 5 the students check in with their partners students nominate one member from each of the groups to match the phrases in the in the correct place.

Vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • form

teacher gives flashcards to the students the student show their flash cards and pronounce the word the teacher pronounces the word as the WC repeats teacher asks the student holding the flash card to make a sentence about himself and his friends' teacher notes any incorrect sentence formation from the students and clarifies
