Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will show students a picture of old devices and ask to match the pictures with their names. HO1 Teacher will then ask students that 'Are these devices still used in our daily lives or they are things of the past". Teacher will elicit some views from the class, making sure that the meaning of the 'things of the past' is clearly understood by everyone.

Pre-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will write a sentence 'Marriage is a thing of the past on the board. Elicit some views from the class. T ask students to work in pairs and groups and discuss 'Marriage is a thing of the past. Do you agree? Work in pairs. Explain why or why not. Teacher will then take feedback from whole class.

While-Reading # 1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Teacher will ask students to look at the words and match the difficult words with the pictures. (HO2). Once they are done, teacher will start feedback by first asking them to check their answers with their partners and then asking them to come on white board and mark the words with the pictures. Teacher will then ask students to read the magazine article (HO3) and find out if the writer agrees that ‘marriage is a thing of the past’. Teacher will ask every students to see if they require any help in the task. Teacher will see if most of the students have completed the task, teacher will start feedback by asking them to check the answers with their partners. Teacher will then ask different students to come and write their answers on white board. Teacher will finally check the answers on White Board with whole class.

While-Reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Teacher will ask students to read the article again and put the sentences a-d in the gaps 1-4. (HO3) Teacher will ask Instruction check questions to see if they have understood the instructions properly or not. Once they are on the task, teacher will visit every single students to see if students need any while doing the task. Teacher will see if most of the students have done the task, teacher will start the feedback by first asking them to check the answers with their partners and then asking different students to come and write their answers on white board. Finally teacher will check the answers with whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Teacher will ask different students to ask one question from your partner and then listen to his/her reply. (HO4) 1) Is marriage changing in your country? How? 2) At what age do people usually get married? 3) What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting married? Teacher will then instruct whole class to stand up and ask the same questions with your partners. Once they are done with all three questions. Teacher will ask students to change the roles from interviewer to interviewee and ask same questions. Teacher will monitor every student group while they are speaking in both the roles.
