Description

In this lesson, students will practise Present Continuous tense studying on daily life conversations.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present continuous tense in the context of meetings.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using scripts about the things people are doing at the moment in the context of meetings

Procedure

Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are shown the "meeting" photo and are asked what the people in the photo are doing? Students are shown the table of "Present Continuous" on the board and they are asked to come to the board and fill in the blanks.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The students are given a short text and in pairs they are asked to underline the Present Continuous forms. They are also asked the bare forms of the words. They come to the board and write them on the board.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Drill the sentences in the ppt with the students.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are given a picture of the characters and a text with blanks. They are asked to fill in the blanks individually. Then compare their answers with each other in groups. In the end, one pair reads the dialogue so that everybody can check the answers. Fınally, they listen to the conversation (L3). When necessary, explanations of the grammar will be given in the context in this stage.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The students work in pairs and tell each other what they think those people are doing at 10.05 a.m.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The students listen to the conversation and answer the questions accordingly. First they check the answers in pairs. Then, they confirm them on the answer keys on the walls.

Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The students are given the table of Present Continuous questions and short answers and complete the answers. After that, they fill it in on the board. In the second part of this step, they write positive and negative short answers for the questions. They check their answers in pairs.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss listen to the conversation. They decide on the person who signs the contract. They share their ideas in their group and then check the answer as whole class.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The students make questions in the Present Continuous tense in the dialogue. They act it out in pairs and the answers are checked with the listening.
