Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set context ,generate interest and engage the Ss

Show pictures to Ss. Ask Ss if people in the pictures are happy or sad and why.

Exposure and highlight (5-7 minutes) • To provide a context for the TI and draw As attention to the Tl

Ask Ss to look at the two pictures and read the conversations .Then they match the two pictures with the two suitable conversations. Ss check answers in pairs. Give Ss fb.

Language focus (7-13 minutes) • To provide clarification on meaning ,form and pronunciation of the target language in the context of responding to good and bad news.

Ss classify the responses they readin Ex.1 Demonstrate to Ss. Ss check answers in pairs. Give Ss fb. Clarify meaning,form and pronunciation. Ss listen and repeat.

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare Ss for meaningful practice

Ss read the conversations again and underline the appropriate response. Demonstrate to Ss. Ss check answers in pairs. Ss listen to the correct answers.

Semi-controlled practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide fluency speaking of the Tl about useful phrases in the context of responding to good or bad news.

Ss listen to some other pieces of news. Ss decide if it's good or bad news. Individuals say the appropriate response.
