Description

In this grammar lesson students will learn how to form questions in the past tense.the lesson will start with a warmer where T talks about music and foreign singers and interact with students about their favorite English singer then will be followed with an exposure on 3 celebrity figures and others mentioned in a quiz. then students will highlight the language models answering the quiz, clarification will be followed up with both a controlled and freer practices

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Making questions in the past tense in the context of singers and music

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about celebrities in the context of mus
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of celebrities and music

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will start with talking about music and ask ss if they listen to any foreign music. - Do you like listening to music? - Do you listen to any songs in English? - Do you have a favorite English or American singers?

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will show a few pictures of foreign singers and guess the students knowledge on them and stick it on the board then will hand them the quiz and introduce a few more, T will ask ss to fill in the gabs in the quiz with question words but before they start T will check if they remember them and write them on the board

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will clarify that the quiz is already answered and they just have to but a question word that matches the answers, T asks ss to work alone and gives them 3 minutes then Ss check in pairs or in a group, as will listen to a track and check their answers

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will pick few language models from the quiz and drill pronunciation before writing the sentence on the top half of the board and check meaning using CCQs. Then will make a table on the bottom half divided into the sentence structure and check the form using mainly CCQs

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will give handouts and As will have to turn the sentence mentioned into yes or no questions then They will ask each other these questions and answer them in pairs

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss report back to the group or the T what they have learnt about each other from answering these questions
