Description

In this session, students will brainstorm on the idea of love and read some famous quotes from well-known people about the topic. The learners then will do a quiz about types of people in relationships to find out about their own style. They engage in conversations in controlled and freer practices, Meanwhile, Ss also learn some useful language in order to use to describe their relationships,

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practices in conversations in the context of personal relationships

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for giving descriptions of routine life in the context of personal relationships

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the class and asks how they feel. T sets the scene by ptting Ss in groups and prepares the materials for the lesson. T provides the picture HO (love is...) for the Ss and asks them to come up with some ideas with their partners. T elicits some answers from the C

Exposure (8-13 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

a) T writes one of the statements in exercise 1 on the board and asks the class to come up with some opinions. T elicits some answers from the class. T asks the learners to work in pairs and discuss whether they agree or disagree with the rest of the statements in exercise 1. T monitors the activity in case there is a problem with the vocabulary. T elicits some answers randomly from the class and asks if other groups agree or disagree. b) T asks the class to do the quiz and check their answers with the answer key at the bottom of the page. T asks the class to check their results with a partner.

Useful Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T provides the handout that contains the examples of the useful language in the quiz and asks the class to match them with their definitions. Ss check their answers with their partners T provides the AK CCQ If we do sth from time to time, is it a period of time? NO Does it happen sometimes or always? Sometimes If we rely on our friends, do we ask them for help? NO Can we trust them? Yes

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T asks the class to to work with a partner and ask the question on the relationship HO with a partner. T monitors the activity and provides guidance. T notes down the examples of good language and possible mistakes for further feedback session. T instructs the class to stand up and mingle. Ss find a new partner and talk about their friends and family.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T writes the samples of good language and mistakes on the board. T praises the C for producing good language examples and also elicits the correct forms of the possible mistakes Ss have made in the speaking activities.
