Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask them what the weather is like today. Then I will ask them how the weather was yesterday. I will try to elicit 'was' and 'were' from the students. Write on the board. I will tell them when we talk about the past the form for "be" is was/were. Then I will show a picture from my trip to Marseille,France last summer. I will tell them the first 2 days it was sunny, then the 3rd day it was not too hot but windy. The 4th day it was rainy and the 5th day it was cold and snowy! :) I will ask them to think about their last trip, and ask them how the weather was and tell them that ,we are going to talk about it at the end of the lesson.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will give the text 1.77. They will skim it to get exposed to the language or grammar point.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask them to underline past form of "be" . They can work in pairs. Then ask some students to come and draw it on the board where I will project the script. In this case, I will highlight the target language.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

CCQ: Is it now or in the past? Yes Are we talking about the past ? Yes Are we using "was" after "we,you,I "? No Are we using "were" after he/she/it?" No Write on the board was / were and elicit from the student to say pronouns. Elicit from nominated students when we use was and when we use were. ( plural, singular) Project the chart. Clarify they form ( affirmative, negative, and question) Drill the sentences.

Controlled Practice 1 (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them the H.O. (underline) for to practice the meaning. Ask them to work individually then check with the pairs. Ask one student and then ask them to ask to each other.

Controlled Practice for to check students to understand the meaning and the form (6-9 minutes)

I will give them H.O. ( fill in the blanks) Ask them to work individually first and then check answers with their pairs. Nominated students come and write the answers on the board. I will project the answers on the board. Give them the 3rd H.O. (correct the mistakes) if I have extra time. Ask them to work in pairs and come and circle the answers on the board.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask them that, talk about their last trip work in pairs. - Where? - When? - What's the weather like? - Were they at a hotel? - Was it expensive / cheap? - Was city noisy or quite? They have 4-5 mins. Then ask couple of students to tell each other's vacations.
