Description

In this lesson the students will learn about the simple present tense through a guided discovery based on activity about people, places and things. The lesson starts with a memory game(words from the previous unite). This followed by an activity from the book where students have to number people, things and places in the picture then write the words in the correct box finally there is some controlled practice through crossword and free practice via a final role-play speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of simple tense in the context of people, places and things

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about favorite book

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the students 14 slides which include the lesson's vocabulary. The Students are supposed to guess the words.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Once the students elicited the words from the slides, they will do the 1st activity page 48 where they should number the pictures according the list of words given. A quick feedback will be given

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

After correcting the task. I will divide the students into two teams, I will write the words ''People''. ''Places''. and '' things'' , one by one the students will come to the board and put their hand one the correct category of the word which ı am going to say. For example: I say the word doctor students should put their hand under the word ''people'' etc...

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the pronunciation of the target language

After finishing this exercise, I will open the slides again and drill the target vocabulary with the students.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

In this stage the students are supposed to be able to find the word by their meanings through a crossword activity. across: 1-city 6-nurse 7-handbag 8-camera 9-treasure down: 1-clown 2-village 3-farmer 4-jungle 5-island

Semi-Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

the students will listen and circle the correct answers. I will play the recording twice and then check answers by asking the questions again

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students will act out a play-role after that they will personalize it. by talking about their favorite books.

controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

the student will listen to 6 different kind of books and tick the right one

Free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students should think about a book they know, and complete the information about it on the worksheet. They can draw pictures in the spaces below the text, using the headings. The students take turn asking and answering in pairs about the book they chose.
