Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Some, many and most with and without of in the context of Migration

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a usage of many, most and some with and without of

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start my lesson by eliciting the meaning of some, many and most. After that i will give them an exercise which will make them more clearer about usage of these quantifiers.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will give students an exercise of pie chart HO1 containing the information of 'Where are Marshfield College International students from?'. Ss will work in pairs and groups to complete the exercise. T will monitor while they are doing the exercise. Once exercise is done, T will open the same exercise on multimedia and ask Ss from different groups to come and write the correct answer on board. Once they are done T will do whole class feedback to complete the activity.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Students will be given exercise 1(HO3) and asked in pair and groups to read the sentences and then add the word 'of' to some (but not all of them). Students will be asked 'ICQ', whether they understood the instruction clearly or not. Teacher will be monitoring all closely if someone has confusion, teacher will provide some cues to understand what to be done in this exercise.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Once they have completed exercise 1, T will aske students to turn their papers and show students some grammar rules on multimedia, and elicit that we can use some, many and most with and without 'of'. T will give HO2 to students and discuss the Meaning, Form, Pronunciation with students and will ask them to make atleast two sentences from the given table using some, many and most with or without 'of' with as much as low TTT. T will then ask students from different group to write the sentences on White Board. If the sentences are incorrect, teacher will correct them and then ask students to repeat the correct sentences after him for accurate pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will now be asked to look at exercise HO3 again and check whether they have put the correct answers or not. Once they are finished teacher will then tell some rules HO4 of when and when not to use 'of' with very less TTT. 'Of' is not necessary when we are describing a quantity of something and make no reference to any bigger group of the same thing. We use 'of' when we want to show a relationship between a smaller part and a bigger quantity.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will show students hand out to show students how to use substitution table HO5 to write new true sentence. I will set a target to give sentences for each student. T will monitor closely while they are doing this activity and will note down some sentence students are producing by using those tables. T will write the answers on board and correct them with the right sentences if they are wrong. T will ask students to share the sentences with their partners and compare their answers with each other. Students will be give HO6 as a freer practice if there is sufficient time.

Free Practice (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If time permits, students will be given survey forms HO7 and will be asked in pairs and groups to fill that survey forms with the information asked, when finished Ss will be asked to collect the same information from other groups and write a short note on other groups by using 'some', many and most.
