6th Teaching Practice
Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson students will learn comparatives and superlatives. The lesson will start with a lead-in activity where students will give points to different vehicles. By using this information as an input I will switch to presentation stage. I will use guided discovery technique. After the presentation stage I will give them some exercises to check their understanding. If nothing goes wrong they will have semi-controlled activity where they will demonstrate their ability to use target language. If I have time at last stage of the lesson they will have a freer practice to gain fluency on what they have learned.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of comparatives and superlatives in the context of transportation alternatives

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will give a handout and request them to give points to different kind of vehicles. When they are done I will get the feedback and by using the answers I will switch to language focus.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will elicit the meaning of comparatives and superlatives by giving clear examples from the text students have worked on.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will work on 3 exercises with their pairs. After getting feedback I will focus on problematic areas.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will show them 4 different gadgets. Desktop Computer vs MacBook Kindle Reader vs Samsung Tablet Divide the class into two groups. (Computers & Tablets) Ask the students in each group to work in pairs. They will compare the products in their product set and write sentences using comparatives and superlatives. After they're finished they will act as a technology consultant and guide the buyers in other group.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will stand up and pretend as if they're in a party. They will meet with people and brag about their imaginary wealth. Change the pairs after 2 minutes.
