Description

In this lesson I am going to introduce useful phrases and how to use time expressions. Students will listen and read a conversations. They will get to understand new useful phrases to use in different situations and how to pronounce them.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for using useful phrases in the context of the subject.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in conversation using the target vocabulary phrases.
  • To provide product writing practice of a a conversation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show three pictures and have a discussion with the Ss about the pictures. What is happening on these pictures? Who are they? Are they spending their time wisely? Then I will get Feedback from Ss to deliver the context to them.

Exposure (6-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will let Ss read the three conversations and then they will have to match each picture with it's right conversation. That way they will have an overall idea as to what is happening in the text. Similarly, they will be exposed to some of the underlined expressions and idioms. Then I will get the Ss to check their answers in pairs, after that I will get FB from them. And then I will make sure that they have understood the main idea of the text through their FB.

Highlighting (10-12 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will get the Ss attention to the underlined sentences or expressions and try to elicit from them the target language by asking them " What these expressions refers to? ". If they know , it's good, if not I will tell them " These are time idioms or expressions ".

Clarification (12-18 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will write target language (time expressions) on the board and clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation for each expression and ask them to repeat after me.

Controlled Practice (18-21 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask Ss to replace the underlined phrases in Ex.1 with the time expressions in Ex.2 to check that they understand the meaning of the expressions. I will demonstrate to them by answering the first one to make clear instructions. At first they will work individually then let them check their answers in pairs. Then I will play a sound track for the conversations to check their answers.

Free Practice (21-30 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask Ss to work with a partner, and choose three of the expressions from Ex.2 and use them in a short conversation and then practice their conversations with their partner. I will demonstrate to them through a conversation between me and one of the attendance to make a clear instructions. A: I finished my homework early. B: Nice, so we have time to spare? A:Yes, let's watch a movie. B: OK, great !
