VCOP, Story Hand and Story telling
Upper Secondary 4 level
To provide specific information listening practice using a text about fairy tale in the context of story telling. To practice and improve telling a story using vcop, story hand and voice modulation.
To clarify and practice use of speech parts in the context of writing a story.
Procedure (61-77 minutes)
Ss are asked to think and discuss in pairs about their favourite stories. The are asked to discuss the following points in detail. What is your favorite story? Why? Narrate your story in brief. What is the best part of the story? What kind of story is it? -Sci fi, comedy, tragedy, fairy tale or horror.
Tr says : you are going to look at a visual clip of a story. The clip is on mute. You have to guess what the characters are saying to each other. Once Ss see the clip, tr questions: What are the names of the characters? What do you think they are saying to each other? Tr further asks them: Guess what happened before Aladdin went into the cave? Draw a time line and write the events. Tr models a time line for the S. Ss do the time line and whole class feedback is done. Tr checks the use of Past perfect an past perfect continuous tense. Tr then asks Ss to guess event that happened after he left the cave on a time line. Whole class feed back is done of the same and tr. checks the use of present perfect tenses.
Ss work in groups of three. Ss are asked to create a cartoon board. Ss are instructed to use the two characters from the video clip. They are to add three more characters and create a story using VCOP, story hand hand and the correct tenses. Ss are given puppets (on sticks) and are asked to create three more based on the characters they have chosen. Once the previous task is completed, Ss are to present their story. Ss are given time to rehearse their story. Ss then present their story to the class, using puppets. Ss then present their story to the class.
Each S is given a HO. They are to note down characters, plot and new or interesting words used by other groups. They take their notes home and write a review on the story as home work. Once Ss have presented their stories, PC and WCFB are done.
