Description

The Ss will learn about some new grammatical stuff. They will learn to use 'how long' and 'when'. The lesson starts with a picture introducing Ss to Erich Lejeune, a millionaire. Ss will listen about the life of Erich and do a small scan listening task which will further clarify the context. After that, Ss will do a guided discovery task which will be followed by controlled and freer practice tasks.

Main Aims

  • To learn the use of question words like- 'how long' and 'when'(grammar) in the context of 'life of a millionaire'.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in pairs in the context of daily activities (freer practice)
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about a millionaire in the context of life of a millionaire

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- Show the picture of Erich Lejeune to Ss and tell them that he is a millionaire 2- Tell them about his business

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an audio clip

1- Tell Ss that they are going to listen to an audio clip that has information regarding the life of Erich Lejeune 2- Give them instruction regarding a scan listening task while listening 3- Give them HO related to the task 4- Play the audio clip and have them work on HOs and check their answers in pairs 5- Check answers on board and clarify the context further

Highlighting and Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. Instruct, model and provide Ss with HOs of guided discovery task Stages of guided discovery: -Meaning -Form -Pronunciation (Coral drill the TL) - Ss will do the exercises given in the HO in groups 2. Have Ss do the tasks in a chronological order 3. Take feedback and clarify.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To make students do the controlled practice of what they have learnt

1. Take back all the HOs from Ss except the guided discovery one 2. Instruct and distribute the HOs containing gap fills for a controlled practice 3. Make Ss do the task and discuss the answers in pairs 4. Provide FB on board (OHP)

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To make students correctly use the target language

1. Make students sit in pairs and mark them as A and B 2. To provide Ss with HOs(HO-A, HO-B)having some incomplete questions and their answers 3. Tell the Ss-A to ask questions given in HO-A and vice-versa 4. Do FB and delayed correction 5. Conclude the lesson
