Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of past simple, present simple, and going to for future plans in the context of Life events.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing and speaking practice of an essay in the context of Life events.

Procedure

lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students

teacher asks questions about what they read in the lesson before what did Georg study? is he married? does he have children? where do they live? what are they doing the next year?.........etc.

clarification (guided discovery task) (20-22 minutes) • To clarify meaning of target language

Guided discovery: teacher divides SS into groups of 3-4 1- teacher shows the sheet and tells students to read the sentences and answer the questions below teacher tells SS to answer the questions in their groups pass out the guided discovery sheet teacher monitors while SS are answering the questions to find out problems they have teacher gives FB with AK for the first section of the sheet (meaning) (potential): teacher draws the timeline for the three tenses on the WB teacher asks in which tenses the sentences are 2- teacher shows the second part of the sheet and tell students to fill the gaps with the right answer teacher monitors and helps SS when necessary teacher gives FB with AK for the second section of the sheet (function) 3- teacher shows the third part of the sheet and tells SS to complete the patterns with the missing words teacher do an example with SS teacher monitors and helps SS when necessary teacher gives FB with AK for the third section of the sheet (forms) **teacher drills the sentences with SS

Controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
