Description

In this lesson, students learn about the quantifiers (too, not enough) within the context of health and the body based on a reading text. The lesson starts with a discussion on diet and lifestyle after a lead in with health and the body pictures. Reading for gist, vocabulary clarification, reading for detail, listening for detail and speaking activities follow.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading and listening practice using a text about "Everything bad is good for you" in the context of health and body

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of health and body

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- To lead in with pictures on health and body - To elicit the context from the students

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- To give the ss a questionnaire on diet and lifestyle as a discussion in pair work

While Reading #3 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading task

- To give students questions to check the comprehension of the reading - T get the ss to fold the h/o in half - To get students to work in pairs - To get the ss to peer check - To go over the FB session

While-Reading #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading task

- To give the ss the text and ask them to discuss in PW and ask "does it change what you think about your answers to the questionnaire?" - SS fold the H/O in half

While-Reading #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with a reading for specific information task

-SS unfold the H/O and match the vocabulary in the text with the definition given in the box next to the text. - To distribute the answer key (1 per each table)

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned with speaking

- To distribute the answer key to the WC for the while reading & listening questions - To get the ss to speak pn whether or not they are happy with their life styles after the reading and the listening - To make necessary error corrections

Pre-Listening (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio and make it accessible

- To open a discussion on ss views on the benefits of chocolate and watching TV

While Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening task

- To make the ss listen to the audio to check their answers about their own views on the benefits of chocolate and watching TV - To ask the wc if their views have changed about chocolates and watching TV:

While Listening #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provde ss with litening for specific information task

- To give the students the questions related with the audio. - To get the ss to unfold the H/Os for the related questions - To have ss to peer check - to go over the FB session
