To enable students to tell dates & ask questions about dates in the context of holidays
To practice speaking in the context of holidays. To develop students reading skills for general understanding.
Procedure (43-52 minutes)
Teacher starts by showing some visuals representing some of the common holidays and asks students to make guesses about them. Elicits correct answers. Then asks students to match dates with pictures.
Teacher gives functional language on asking the date and answering. Then gives the handouts to students. Students practice in groups of three. Teacher monitors them to provide help when needed, and to note common mistakes.
Teacher corrects some of the common mistakes by students.
Teacher gives the handouts and tells students to read the text and match the questions with right answers. Students work in pairs. Teacher monitors them in the meantime and gives help if needed.
Students listen to the recording and check their answers in pairs.
Teacher re-groups students and gives them new handouts. Students work in pairs. Teacher monitors them in the meantime and provides help when needed.
