In this lesson students learn about "expressions with "make"" through the context of an audio covnersation about making your home "eco friendly". Students will be pre taaught some relveant vocab for the context before listening to the audio and then some vocab exercises usng "make"

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show students book covers from pg 68 and list of words In groups of three ask them to guess what today's lesson topic is going to be about Elicit answers from groups until someone guesses correctly. If time: How eco-friendly are there homes? Now and at end of class

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Divide Ss into groups of three. Give Vocab handout. Give them five minutes to match listening relevant vocab to the correct meaning. Give answer key, let groups check themselves. Quick WC FB to see if there are any they are unclear of

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Keep Ss single for now. Play audio track once, stressing class silence. Split into pairs to check each others answers. Quick WC feedback, tick or no tick?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detail based task.

Students lsiten to audi oagain o ntheir own answering more detail based questions. Split into pairs to compare answers/ WC feedback, eliciting answers for each question from different pairs.

Clarifying TL (12-15 minutes) • To clarify meaning of TLand highlight form

Clarify langauge, explain we use "make" for lots of different reasons, ask Ss to volunteer some. Check understanding of "make" through exercise 1 pg 68: Task students with quickly reading transcript of audio. Split students into pairs, task them with answering questions. Check answers in pairs. Go through as WC, eliciting correct answers from pairs. Check for errors. If common errors use PP and notes from Ts book pg 98 to clarify different meanings of make

Language Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide controlled/ less controlled practice of "make"

Split students into groups of 3 Ss complete sentences using phrases from columns A and B in cut out exercise Use answer key to check Ss got right. Groups discuss if they agree with statements from the exercise, turn into WC discussion.
