Description

In this lesson, SS learn how to talk on the phone through listening and reading activities, the lesson begins with a discussion about photos of people eating, drinking and dancing with their friends to set the context of Going Out. The SS will be introduced to telephone expressions through reading and listening.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

"Going out" Teacher shows pictures (friends eating, drinking, dancing) ask some question about the picture: where are they? what are they doing? who are they with? Introduce "Going out" with friends, family....,etc

Pre-teach expressions (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Introduce SS to telephone expressions: teacher choose a learner and say you phone me: A: -Hi or Hello -It's Ahmad here. teacher tells the class I can't talk to you what can i say? B: -I'm busy -can I call you later? = can I phone you? don't forget to drill present: Just now + gesturing call = phone later = not now (now it's 10:45, I'll call you later = maybe 12:00 13:00) (I'll call you later, I'm really busy)

While-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with reading/listening tasks

Have SS do ex.1.a+b : teacher shows Tom and Sue photos ask where are they? Tom at home and Sue at work Are they busy? Sue is busy, but not Tom) divide then in groups of 3-4 Cut ups instructions: Tom and Sue are having a Phone conversation(talking on the phone) there are five sentences put them in the right order do one with them and then have them complete it in their groups SS listen to their conversation and check. teacher writes the phrases on the WB and do FB with WC

While-Reading/Listening (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with inference reading/listening tasks

Have SS to do ex.2.a(listening) Underline tell SS Tom and Sue have another Conversation and they are goıng to lısten to ıt teacher shows SS the HO with Five sentences and tell them to underline the ones they hear in the voice clip Do a demonstration have SS do the task Individually check in pairs teacher sets why Sue is busy? (she is in a meeting) FB and drilling with WC Have SS do ex.2.b: Teacher shows the blanks HO on WB (slide) have SS do Individually check in pairs Teacher has already spread the AK on the table or the wall outside SS get outside and take one and hang it on the WB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Have SS do ex.3 teacher divides SS into As and Bs by giving SS colored A and B papers *Student A call student B Student B you're busy Do demonstration SS from A find Someone form B and do the same *Student A, call student B again. Student B, you are still busy Do demonstration
