Description

To establish the context by using visuals. To let Ss listen for gist and then for detail to better understand the topic. And to practice speaking first in a controlled and then semi-controlled way to make Ss speak fluently in the given context.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation, group and pair discussion in the context of a trip to london.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about tour experience in the context of a trip to London.
  • To provide better understanding of some important words related to the context in pre-teach.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-To show Ss pictures related to London city to clarify the context. 2- To elicit the name of the city, the pictures belong to. 3- To introduce Ss to Alejandro- my friend who went to London on his holiday.

Pre-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming receptive and productive tasks

1- To demonstrate few important and difficult words using OHP. 2- To drill those words in order to teach Ss right pronunciation and meaning.

Exposure (Pre-teach Test) (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

1- To ask a question whose answer is hidden in the audio clip to be played. 2- To play the audio clip (listening for gist) 3- To have them answer the above-mentioned question. 4- To give them FB and do hot air correction.( write corrections on board) 5- To distribute HO containing matching questions related to the audio clip. 6- To play the audio clip again (detailed listening) to fill the HO. 7- To demonstrate answers with the help of OHP.

Productive Task- Speaking (controlled practice) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills in a controlled way.

1- Show things to ask on screen. 2- Model it with CELTA peers. 3- Make Ss sit in a circle and hand over a ball to anyone of them. 4- Tell them the rules of the game and start. 5- Monitor and take notes.

Productive Task- Speaking (semi-controlled practice) (10-12 minutes) • To make Ss practice speaking in a freer way.

1- Model the HO 2- Distribute HOs and tell them not to unfold the HOs and fill the 1st question. 3- Tell them to sit in pairs and unfold the HOs to ask questions to each other in pairs.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1- To correct the mistakes and give them FB. 2- To conclude.
