Then, they will work in pairs to talk about the New year's Eve celebration in Egypt. They will also have a new vocab ( do, make) and the appropriate collocate for do and make

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Chinese New Year in the context of New year's Eve celebrations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a simple statments in the context of New year's Eve celebrations in Egypt
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of how people celebrate New year's Eve in Egypt

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ask Ss about the Arabic and Egyptian festivals what are the Arabic and Egyptian festivals that we celebrate? How do you celebrate?

Pre-Listening (8-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give students hand-outs have questions to discuss about the Chinese New Year(work in pairs) Have you Ever heard about the Chinese New year? Is it different from the New Year In 1st of January? "Read these questions then discuss the answers with your partner" "Are you going to write?" check answers with the whole class Ask student to watch a video about the Chinese New Year and tell me the secret behind that new year "there is a secret behind this festival" "watch this video carefully then tell me" Read these sentences SB p 34 and tick if it is true or false "Are you going to speak ?"

Listening #1 (2-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

listen to the following track and check your answers Ss correct the statements that are false

vocabulary focus (2-3 minutes) • to learn vocabulary in the context of Chinese New year

Give Ss hand-out to match the word with its definition Ss check their anwsers in pairs

Post-Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss rewrite the statements in Exercise 2 with information about New Year's Eve in Egypt Ss work as one group to discuss the statements
