Description

This is an integrated Reading and Vocabulary lesson in the context of Cyberchondriac. It introduces a number of demerits and focus students in deducing meaning from the context

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in reading ofr gist and detail, and in deducing meaning from context through a text about a Cyberchondriac

  • Vocabulary and Speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After having introduction in class they will be given a quiz of True and False. After 2 to 3 minutes they will be asked to turn the paper and keep it with them.

Pre-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students will be given Exercise 5a and asked to look at the title/picture and predict in pair/groups about the topic and discuss.

While-Reading#1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage students will be given Ex:5b (First part) to check ideas and get a general understanding (reading for gist)

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will now be given Ex:5b(second part) for detail reading and also completing a task by completing topic sentences. They will work in group/pairs to complete the task.

While-Reading#3 (8-10 minutes) • Vocabulary

Students will be asked to look at the underlined words and will be encouraged to discuss in group/pairs about the meaning. when they are finished they will be asked to complete Ex:5c. Later they will hear an audio to check their answers.

While-Reading # 4 (5-7 minutes) • Multiple Choice Questions

I will ask the students to read the article again to solve Ex:5e. They will compare answers with a partner and then check for answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

At the final stage of the lesson students will be asked what they found most interesting/surprising in the topic. They will be asked to do this in pairs and groups and then as a whole class feedback.
