Warmer (4-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic and set the context for the lesson

I'm thinking of a word and I want you to guess it. Write 42,195 on board. Can anyone guess what it is? NYC: how about now? Athens. Anyone? Add meters after 42,195. Any guesses? Olympics. Marathon. Personalize: I ran a marathon when I was in high school. I still run about 3 times a week. I would like to run another marathon. Maybe the one here in Istanbul next year.

Exposure 1 (10-12 minutes) • To introduce vocabulary in the context of sports and staying healthy

HO: True for you? Ask them to share in more detail with a partner Teach vocab by showing pictures? Play memory game by having them match picture with the word. Come up here. Can everyone see. Match the word with the picture. Demo.

Exposure 2 (7-8 minutes) • To provide functional language to use vocab

HO: Put the sports into three groups according to the verbs they go with. Put answers in three different places around room. In pairs Give me a question with 'do' and 'weightlifting' Do the same with 'go' and 'play'

Exposure 3 (10-12 minutes) • To practice speaking using the target language

Ask as many people as you can if they do any of these things. Write their name and response. Demo: Do you do weightlifting? Do you go running? Do you play tennis? How many people will you ask? Are you writing? Stand up: go Delayed EC? Do WC feedback. What did you find out? Error correction WC: Which of these is the best sport to keep fit? Which is the best sport to watch?

Exposure 4 (5-8 minutes) • To continue practicing speaking and vocab (if time)

Do you know of any famous people who play these sports? Which one is your favorite? Which of these sports are popular in Turkey? Think of other sports that are popular here? WC feedback and delayed error correction.
