Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T: WB questions: Why is good pronunciation important? How many sounds (phonemes) are there in English? What are the 3 different aspects of speech? What is 'Connected Speech'? / 3 mins / WC FB / 2 mins

Listening Task #1 - Diagnostic Test A (7-8 minutes) • To determine pronunciation needs through listening diagnostic test

T: Distribute SOS HO 1 T: Explain test / Demo test / ICQ: How many boxes to tick each line? Do all lines need to be filled? / Play audio / 5 mins / Collect HO1 (no FB)

Reading Task #1 - Diagnostic Test B (7-9 minutes) • To determine pronunciation needs through reading diagnostic test

T: Distribute SOS HO 2 T: Demo Task (Ss to read each in turn) / allocate reading order / ICQ: Are you going to read more than one line at a time? Do you need to write anything? / Start recording / Start reading / 3 mins / Stop recording T: Demo FB (T to read whole script, Ss to underline words they think they got wrong) / ICQ: What are you going to do with words you think you got wrong? / T read script / 3 mins

Post-Reading/Listening Task #1 (7-8 minutes) • To get agreement as to the highest priority needs

GW: Group discussion: What sounds caused most problems? Why? / 3 mins / WC FB / 3 mins GW: Agree next steps
