Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic

*show SS photos on slide-1 ask them questions about the photos: 1-what do you see in these photos? 2-who are these people? 3-why are they doing this? 4-do you know any of these protesters or protests? 5- do you think they are breaking the law? *show SS slide-2 and let them discuss the questions in groups: pass HO's you have 2 minutes to discuss them WC answers

Pre-teach vocabulary (2-3 minutes) • To deal with meaning

Have SS match the words match the words to their definitions pass HO's check in pairs answer keys

(optional)Prediction task (1-2 minutes) • To encourage Ss to predict/ think about the text

Give SS the title of the article and have them predict what is it about and I may have them watch a video clip about Rosa parks

Reading for gist (6-8 minutes) • To encourage Ss to skim for gist in order to get an overview of the text

Have SS read the text and answer ex.1: *Instructions: -you have 3 minutes to read the text -answer these questions check with your partner have some SS to write the answers on WB

Reading for detail (8-10 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension and understanding the text in depth

Have SS do ex.2: instructions: -show them ex.2 (HO) -8 true and false sentences -read the text carefully and define T&F sentences -check with your partners -WC check T or F -then have some SS to tell me why it's F and they may say it from the text

Reading for specific info (4-6 minutes) • To practice scanning for specific information

Have SS do ex.3: Instructions: -can you see the highlighted words in the text? -You are going to use these words or phrases to fill these six sentences with gaps (showing them the ex(HO)) -check with your group or partner have the answers all over the places in the class -ask them to stand up and to look for the answers around the class

Post-Reading task (6-8 minutes) • To develop oral fluency by reacting to the text; personalize the text

Have SS do ex.4 show them the photos (slide): you have 4 minutes to think about courageous (brave) person in the history of your country. what did they do? make some notes on them. have them stand up and walk for a bit in the class and in 2 minutes you have to tell some people about the person you chose and the person they have chosen.
