Description

In this lesson, ss learn and practice some verb phrases in the context of "weekend and weekday activities". This context will be approached by engaging ss in receptive skill activities by listening for the gist and specific information related to weekend and weekday activities. The lesson starts with showing ss pictures about the weekend activities in order to teach them vocabulary. This is followed by a listening task focusing on listening for gist and specific information. Then there will be a short speaking activity about the weekend activities of the ss. After that, there will be a reading task to help ss to understand the form of some verb phrases. Finally a free practice will take place in which the students will use TL in a writing activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about weekend activities in the context of weekend

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss about their day and their weekend Show ss images about some weekend activities of T by using PowerPoint image based presentation and teach them new vocab by showing ss images to clarify the meaning of them: go on the internet, go out and stay in Ask ss what they do at the weekend Work in pairs to discuss their weekend activities Get FB from ss

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask ss if they know when the western countries have their weekend. Ask ss to read the weekend activities of three people: Tanya, Bill and Mary and decide on which day they do these activities Choose one of ss to demonstrate the activity with him\her Give them two minutes to answer ss check in pairs Check answer with WC

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask ss to listen to the track Ask ss if they want to listen again or not, play it again if needed ss check in pairs Get FB

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
