Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Making W-h questions in the past simple in the context of Last weekend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening for specific information in the context of Last weekend

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start a discussion where i will ask the students about their weekend ? ( e.g what did you do on your weekend) and i will ask them to ask me back again about my weekend . just to check if they still have some ideas about the previous lesson which was making questions in the simple past form .

Eliciting (5-7 minutes) • To engage the students

I will put some scrambeld W-h questions and i will ask to students to put them in order. first i will divide the students into 6 groups , each group is going to have a questions , i will ask them to try to put them in order then when they finish , they will go and stick them on the whiteboard. each group is going to work on a question , and one of them is going to stick the question on the board.

working in pairs (5-8 minutes) • Statement / question

I will give the students four statements and four questions , each student is going to have a part , one student is going to have a question and the other one is going to have a statement.I will ask the students to find the half by looking for a partner that he has the question of the statement or the statement of the question , they will start by saying the phrases to each other until they find the other half and they should end up making a pair with a question and statement , then i will ask them to sit next to the partner that he or she matched their phrase .

Role Play (8-12 minutes) • To provide the students with an opportunity to practise some speaking

I will give the students a conversation , one students is going to have part A and the Other students is going to have part B , and i will ask them to make a conversation. first i will ask them to face each other , one student is going to take part A and the other one is going to take part B , the first student will ask the question and the other one is going to say the answer , then the next question and the next answer until they finish the conversation.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • Making questions in pairs

I will give the students an exercise , where they should write the W-h questions for some phrases. In this exercise the students we have six sentences , each sentence is an answer to a missing question , and each answer has an underlined part , the part that students should write the question for , so I will ask the students to write a question in pairs using the W-h questions for the underlined part of the sentence. After that I will ask them to check in pairs , then we can check the answers together

Board Game (5-8 minutes) • Practice activity

I will give the students a board game using the past time phrases. I will demonstrate to students how they should play the board game . the board has simple past phrases and the students are supposed to find a question for each phrase. i will ask them to pick one of the phrases and make a question by using W-h expressions in the simple past form (e.g place you went last year " where did you go last year?" ) each student is going to ask the student next to him , the other student will go next and choose the next phrase
