Lesson Plan 1
Lycee Prep level

Description

In this lesson students will learn the mathematical terminology and notation of four operations, equations and word problems. They will try to remember their knowledge about solving equations. They will also use TI-Nspire, the graphic display calculator. They will work in groups.

Materials

Abc TI-Nspire Graphic Display Calculator

Main Aims

  • Students will have a chance to review their mathematical vocabulary related to four operations, equations and TI-Nspire calculator menu.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will work in groups of 4 to write their sentences about four operations, equations and word problems.
  • Students will use TI-Nspire.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be given the instruction in-groups. They will have some time to look at the new vocabulary about equations, four operations and word-problems.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will be given an example of what they need to do in groups.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Here as a teacher, I will help them with highlighting the necessary vocabulary they need.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students in groups of four will write one four operation, one equation, one mixed operation that is to be solved by TI-Nspire on a piece of paper.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The group will send their paper to the next group. That group will check and write the correct answers on that paper. After assessing, they will take the photo and reflect it to the class and present their assessment of the paper.
