Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a Blog in the context of Describing photos

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading a text relating to photos
  • writing a blog relating to photos
  • writing while using prepositions in, of, on or round correctly

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- show some of the famous photos found on the internet - ask the students what they think the theme of the lesson is - tell the students they will ask each other questions about photos for 5 minutes - hand the questions from 6a to students to practice asking questions in pairs & monitor answers

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading

- Tell the students that they will do a quick reading and scan information to find out why she likes that photo on the board with no writing involved - Use ICQs - Show the snapshot from page 112 on the board and give them a HO with the questions from 2a folded down so they can only see the snapshot, do whole class FB, elicit: “because it’s mysterious and reminds the writer of a lovely holiday” - Ask the Ss to look at the questions on the bottom of the HO and match paragraphs with the appropriate questions in pairs - Give the Ss answer key hidden under their tables so they can check their answers

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Ask Ss to complete the text with pronouns in, of, on, or round and write them on the board - Ask Ss to get up and check other groups’ answers

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Show them a snapshot from a blog and elicit what it is - Give each group a different photo and ask them to write a blog entry about it using the steps on page 112 & give them A4s to write on - Tell the Ss to be careful about prepositions while writing their blogs

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- Get Ss to put their written blogs on walls with sticky tack and ask them to check each other’s writing and decide which one is the best - And give the champions an award
