Description

In this lesson, ss will be engaged in receptive skill development by listening for the gist and specific information, through two different conversations between a couple. After listening exercises, they will be introduced to expressions with 'look', and learn to differentiate where it is used as eye movement and where it is used to describe the appearance of something/someone.

  • To practice listening for gist and detail in the context of fashion.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Lead In) (2-4 minutes) • To introduce the lesson and engage students' interest

-Have projection ready -Show the picture and try to elicit the word "fashion" -Tell the ss that this lesson's context is fashion -Tell ss to interview eachother using the content of the HO -Demonstrate with a student -Give them HO -Pair them and ask them to compare what they have learnt in exercise 1 -Nominate some ss to report back to the WC

Stage 2 (Pre-teaching the vocabulary for listening) (2-3 minutes) • To provide vocabulary that will be used in the listening exercise

-Project matching exercise on WB -Pair ss and tell them to match the ones on the left with their meanings -Demonstrate, match one yourself -Give them HO -Give the answers on WB -Show them the pictures

Stage 3 (Fill in blanks, answering questions based on L, discuss the questions) (15-20 minutes) • To practise for gist and detail

-Have CD record ready for L -Tell ss to listen to two conversations and complete the summaries -Give them HO -After L, tell ss to check their answers with their neighbour -Project answers for visual feedback -Tell ss to listen again and answer the questions -Give them HO -Make them listen the CD record for the second time -Ask them to compare their answers with a partner -Give the answers to the class -Tell ss to discuss the questions in pairs -Give them HO -Ask ss if they found out anything interesting from their partner

Stage 4 (Focus on Vocabulary) (10-15 minutes) • To make students figure out the right use of "look"

-Project Vocab exercise 1 on WB -Explain Vocabulary exercise 1 to ss -Demonstrate, do the first one -Give them HO -Have them compare with a partner -Check answers on WB -CCQ to see if there is a need for clarification How many uses of "look" did we learn? What are they? What if I say: -You look tired. Which one is it? -She is looking for her keys -This is an expensive-looking phone. -Tell ss to match the sentences with the phrases -Give them HO -Project answers for visual feedback

Stage 5 (Freer practice) (2-4 minutes) • To let students practice what they have learned

-Pair and tell ss to discuss the questions in the HO -Give them HO
