Description

In this lesson , students learn about sports ,their different places,and their different equipment through listening to a conversation .Then they guess which sport the speakers speak about.

Abc slip of paper
Abc CD audio track 16(inside-out-intermediate)
Abc CD 1 audio track (inside- out intermediate)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about sports in the context of adrenalin

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information about sports, recognizing their places, equipment, and wear in the context of sports
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a debate in the context of sports.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context , engage students , and activate schema.

Tell them that they are going to watch a video about dangerous sports. let the students watch the video. Ask them about the degree of difficulty the sports in the video include. Ask the about the reason of their difficulty, is it the place or the weather or the sport itself? Ask them about the most difficult one from their point of view.

prediction (10-12 minutes) • To make the students predict about the text and make it accessible.

Tell them that imagine that you had to play one of these sports , which one would you choose and what equipment do you need and where would you practice this sport?

pre-teaching vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with the most important vocab to be able to understand and get the meaning of the conversation

Give the students a slip of paper to match and supply the meaning of the pictures. Monitor to help. ask them to work individually and then in pairs.

While-Listening #1 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with gist about the listening and set the context of sports.

To tell them that they are going to listen to two speakers and they have to guess which sport they are talking about. Step 1: Set listening track CD 1 track 16. students listen to the first part of listening and answer the question. Ss check together and then T check answer with the whole class. Step 2: Set listening track CD 1 track 17. students listen to the first part of listening and answer the question. Ss check together and then T check answer with the whole class. monitor then check answer with the WC

While-Listening# 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide listening for detailed information in the context of different kinds of sports.

Step 1 :give the students slip of paper include questions about detailed information of the conversation . Set listening track CD 1 track 16 Ss answer the question and fill in the table monitor and promote peer checks. T check answers with WC. Step 2: Set listening track CD 1 track 17. Ss answer the question and fill in the table monitor and promote peer checks. T check answers with WC.

listening follow -up • To provide further understanding of the kinds of sports and their equipment.

Ask the students to choose an equipment to each sport

Speaking • To provide fluency speaking in the context of sports and their equipment.

Ask Ss to choose a sport they did , tried, watched or even hope to try and draw a diagram of five arrows about this sport includes (equipment, place , weather, special clothes, rules,kind ( team sport , single sport, water sport ,or need a special footwear.) Ask Ss to work together in group to speak and make a debate about their diagram. The Ss discuss their chosen sport with teacher.
