Hobbies and Interests Lesson
Upper Intermediate B2 level

Description

In this lesson, ss will be focused on improving their receptive skills of listening for the gist and specific information, through a conversation between three friends. After listening exercise, they will be re-introduced to the concept of forming question and word order.

Main Aims

  • To review and give students practice forming questions.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise listening for gist and detail.

Procedure

Stage 1 (Warmer, Lead in to L) (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the lesson and spark students' interest.

-Have projection ready to project pictures of different hobbies -Ask them to identify each, the last picture is paintball Do you have any hobbies? Is there anything interesting you would like to do? Do you know what paintball is? Have you ever played it? -Give them HO -Pair them and ask them to do L exercise 1

Stage 2 (Fill in blanks, True or False based on L part) (15-20 minutes) • to practise L for gist and detail

-Have CD record ready for L -Ask them to quickly check L ex. 2 -After L, ss should complete the ex and check with their pair and have a WC FB -Make them listen the CD record for the second time and complete L ex. 3 -Project the ex. on WB and discuss the answers with ss -Pair them to ask each other: Who do you agree with? Dave, Jayne or Harry and why?

Stage 3 (Focus on Language and Grammar) (10-15 minutes) • To form negative sentences and questions, learn about subject and object questions

-Do ex. 1 together on WB, making the sentences negative -Explain the formation if needed -Ask ss to do ex. 2, tell them it's from the listening, -Project the ex. on the WB -Give them Listening Tapescript HO to pair check -Fill in the gaps -Explain the difference between object and subject questions

Stage 4 (Practising Language) (5-8 minutes) • To practise forming questions

-Project ex. 4 onto the WB -Ask ss to form the questions -Ask them to interview their partners using those questions -Nominate few ss to report to the WC
