Description

In this lesson, SS will be engaged in receptive skill development by reading a text first for gist and then for more detail, then listening and practicing their pronunciation by saying letters of the alphabet.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about countries in the context of family first and then for detail.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening and pronouncing the letters of the alphabet.

Procedure

Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Talk about the topics we are going to talk about -Give out HO to SS -Make groups of 4-5

Listening (16-18 minutes) • To practice listening and pronouncing the letters of alphabet

1.a) -Play recording 1.43 -Write letters of the alphabet. -SS repeat. (Point to the letters) b) -Point to letters and ask SS from groups to say them. First the whole alphabet, then chose random letters. -Focus on letters that SS find difficult. (C, G, J, Q, R, V, W) 2.a) -Play recording 1.44 -SS listen and write the words b) -To check if answers are correct, SS spell the words. -Write the words on board

Speaking (3-6 minutes) • To make SS practice their pronunciation

-Ask SS to spell their surname, their father's name. their mother's name. -Write on board what SS say

Reading (16-18 minutes) • To get the main idea about size of families, then for detail

1.a) -1st use diagrams to explain the the meaning of more, most, some, and many, -SS read about three countries to get the main idea 2. -SS read again and answer which questions are true. -Go through the answers and ask SS to correct incorrect sentences.
