Description

This lesson students will practice their reading skill. The lesson main concept is friendships and does they last. It will start with a warm up, pre reading questions (PW), while reading, post reading practices both controlled (S-text) and freer (GW)

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about friendship in the context of lasting friendships and changing life pathes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of friendships in the context of lasting friendships and shifting life pathes
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of lasting friendships and changing life pathes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Hand out the material sheet to S and let them focus on the picture and the name of the lesson. let them guess what the lesson is about..if they struggled i will give them a hint that it's in the context of previous lessons which is friendships. I will clear out any cultural miss-understandings about the picture as for them to guess more accurately

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Focusing on the pre-reading questions students will discuss the statements in pairs, stating what do they think is true or false and why (2min). S will get back to T and T will ask for what they have choose. (1min)

Pre-teaching vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • For Ss to have full understanding of the text

T hands out a matching definition exercise... let them check in pairs and then T explains further.

While-Reading #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

S will focus on reading the text for gist to support their claims on the pre-reading questions. T will ask if there is anything difficult to understand and will try to review the difficult. T will explain what is virgo and give S a hint about zodiac in English as a cultural reference.

While-Reading #2 (2-3 minutes) • For Ss to read the text more thoroughly and be able to answer the questions

Ss will read the artical more thoroughly

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

S answer the post-reading questions and check with a partner

Post-Reading #2 (3-5 minutes) • to allow students to practice their speaking

T provide S with few questions about the topic and their point of view. students discuss in GW
