Elementary level level

Description

In this lesson students will practice two reading skills; reading for gist by skimming the text and answering the questions about the text by looking at the plan. And also they will practice looking for specific information and to identify the situation and what the two lines are for. Ss will learn “differences between men and women while doing some activities like shopping, eating outside, or travelling” through looking at a plan following by a prediction task where the Ss are asked few questions to predict what the text is about after giving them a good clarification or a glimpse about the subject. Finally asking them to work on their own at first, and then to compare their answers in pairs.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about differences between men and women during doing some activities in the context of Different.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of words related to shopping, travelling and eating in the context of Different.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and give a glimpse about the subject

Start by elicit the word "shopping" from them. write the word on the board, then elicit again things we can buy like clothes, pairs of shoes, perfumes...etc Show Ss the materials (pic.) Ask Ss if they like shopping or not. I'll ask the students some questions and elicit some information from them. For example, who takes much time during shopping? Who pays much money? Finally, tell them to read the text and fill the gabs in it using the picture.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Set exercise 1 Pg. 22, pointing at the introduction and let Ss read it. Ss report back with what they understood. Help them by making instructions clear (ICQs)

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

1.Clarifying the instructions and let Ss read and answer the Qs. 2.Ss will read the text and fill the gabs in it individually then tell them the main idea 3.Monitoring the Ss to see if there any problems or difficulties.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pair work, Ss will compare their answers and talk about other situations in which men and women are different.
