Description

Ss read an article about the advantages of letting Ss do some risky playing. Later, they respond to the text by writing a guided opinion paragraph.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and scan reading practice using an article in the context of how useful iit is to let kids do some unsupervised playing.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide guided practice of speaking and writing in the context of responding to a text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows Ss the picture to set the context. - T asks Ss to read the title of the article to predict the topic.

Pre-Reading 1 (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

_ T pre-teaches the vocabulary items unsupervised, cliff, self-esteem, adolescent, injury (matching activity, elicit, check, drill) _ Ss check their answers in pairs then on class level, _ Ss read the skimming questions. .

While-Reading 1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging scanning tasks of the text

- Ss read the text for 60 seconds to check which (3) sentences are answered by the text - Ss check answers in pairs then on class level

While-Reading 2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading tasks

- Ss read the second reading task questions carefully. - Ss read the text for 3 minutes to do part A of the exercise. - Ss read the text again for 2 minutes to answer part B of the exercise. _ Ss check in pairs, then on class level

Post-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Ss do the guided opinion writing sheet. _ Ss share and discuss their opinions _ T provides feedback on content then form
