in this lesson students will practice their speaking skills in the context of advantages and disadvantages of owning a car, being a woman or a man. they will be given a task to discuss the two topics during the lesson and use phrases of agreeing/disagreeing.

Main Aims

  • by the end of this lesson, students will be better able to ask and give their opinion and agreeing/disagreeing

  • to provide the students with better understanding of functional language of giving opinion and agreeing\disagreeing

Procedure

Lead -In (4-5 minutes) • to generate interest in the topic of the lesson

T will say " I really wanted to live in Istanbul, but when i saw the traffic , I changed my mind" . T will try to elicit some advantages and disadvantages about the city.

Listening task (13-14 minutes) • to contextualise and introduce TL

T will write on WB the advantages and disadvantages of owning a car, then ask Ss to write as many of them as they can. T will play the record and ask ss to compare with the ones they hear , if there are any of the same points were mentioned in the record? T will provide SS with a HO and ask them to fill in the gabs and do exercise 3, work alone first , check in pairs. T will play the record again for FB.

highlight TL (6-7 minutes) • to highlight TL so that Ss are focussed on it

T will ask Ss to do exercise 4 . then T will play the record for FB and drill with Ss for pronunciation practice. T will write on WB the useful phrases and highlight stress points.

language practice (8-9 minutes) • to provide controlled oral practice focussed on using the language accuratly

T will write on WB 'being a woman or a man' and ask SS to write the advantages and disadvantages for the topic, work alone. T will ask Ss to use the language and discuss about their points in pairs and agree or disagree with them, CCQ' will you use these phrases ,on WB, to discuss or no? yes T will highlight how to use the intonations while they discuss.

language practice (9-10 minutes) • to provide controlled oral/written practice focussed on using the language accuratly

T will write the topic' using technology to teach' and ask Ss to write three advantages and disadvantages about it. T will change pairs and ask them to use the language and give their opinions. T will highlight and ask Ss to use the language phrases. T will ask WC to give their opinions and discuss with the teacher for last two minutes.
