Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced to past simple positive form with regular verbs. The will have a controlled practice followed by a free practice.

Main Aims

  • to clarify and practice past simple in positive form with regular verbs through sentences taken from a listening.

Subsidiary Aims

  • speaking and writing to practice target language.

Procedure

Lead-in/ Building context (2-3 minutes) • to generate interest in the context of the listening

students will listen to an audio for few seconds then I'll elicit my model sentences from this listening.

Highlighting target language (2-3 minutes) • to highlight the TL so that learners are focused on it

I'll highlight the TL by using sentences from a listening to clarify my TL.

Clarifying target language (5-7 minutes) • to clarify meaning, form and pronunciation.

They watched a football match. They walked in Bebek. Sara studied English. Meaning : CCQs to clarify meaning : Are they walking now? [no] Did they finish walking? [yes] Are they watching a football game now ?[no] Did they watch a football match ?[yes] Is Sara studying now ? [no] Did she study ? [yes] Did it finish ? [yes] Form : Subj + v2 Pronunciation: model and drill

Language practice (6-8 minutes) • to provide controlled practice

I'll give the students handout to answer a Gaps-fill exercise about regular verbs in past simple. Then I'll ask students to check their answers in pairs. then WC feedback then handout answer key.

How was your weekend (6-8 minutes) • to practice writing and speaking about past events

I'll ask each student to write 4 sentences about his/her last weekend. then ask them to discuss it in pairs then take an example from each group.

semi-controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • to practice writing and speaking in past simple

I'll divide the class into 2 or 3 ( depends on how many students I have ). I'll give each group some verbs in present simple. all groups will have the same verbs. Ask each group to write sentences using these verbs. group finishes first with correct past form, wins. Then WC feedback.

free practice activity (4-5 minutes) • to practice past simple

I'll write on the board. What did you do yesterday ? then ask students to stand up and ask each other to see who did same things.
