Description

In this lesson, students will practice their vocabulary skills to talk about jobs and give their opinions on the same topic

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson ss will have been exposed to controlled and free practice in the context of describing the jobs they like the most and the jobs they like the least

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. To practice I would like to ..., I wouldn't mind doing..., and I wouldn't llike to ... 2. To practice words and phrases used to describe jobs. 3. To practice job interview questions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Divide ss into 3 groups. Give each group a number of flash cards that have pictures of different jobs. Ask ss to discuss the jobs they like the most and the jobs they like the least and explain why. For follow-up, discuss their ideas.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Distribute a questionnaire. Ask students to work individually and tick (Yes) in front of the word or the phrase that describes the job he would like to have or wouldn't mind having or wouldn't like to have. Ask ss to discuss their ideas in groups.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Discuss the meaning of every word and phrase. Provide CCQs where appropriate. Drill some words and phrases. Discuss the grammar form of the phrases and ask ss to find examples from the questionnaire.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Provide the students with a controlled practice. Distribute a list of definitions. Ask them to work individually to find the words and phrases that match with these definitions. Then ask them to check their answers in pairs. As a follow-up, check the answers together.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Provide ss with a role play. Distribute them into pairs. Give each pair a different job ad. Display on the projector the general role of the interviewer and the general role of the interviewee. Give them 5 minutes to prepare themselves. Then ask them to start.
